The Default Human Mindset

As human beings, we are very self-centered and egoistic species by default. This self-centeredness isn’t necessarily a bad thing, rather a natural consequence of our evolutionary history. It’s because our ancestors had to prioritize their own survival, which made us develop a strong tendency to view the world through a human-centric lens. Our brains are wired to think this way because it helped us survive in the past. But it takes a conscious effort to shift this mindset. By actively thinking and noticing the world around us, we can start to appreciate that we are just another species with a unique evolutionary trait — intelligence — that helps us manipulate our environment to our advantage.

Our ability to think and understand is directly influenced by the environment we are exposed to. We humans tend to focus on ourselves and what’s good for us. It’s kind of like our default setting.
